Local LGBT History Month events 2011 - 2013

2011

Once more the number of local events on the national LGBT History Month calendar showed the East Midlands leading London. Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage led the way with numerous displays in libraries, a register office and a couple of civic centres as well as a Celebration and Awards evening at the Council House at which Peter Tatchell was the guest speaker.

Other contributions were made by Sapphist Writers, Nottingham Ball Bois FC, Nottingham City Homes, Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust and more.

The awards which we presented in 2011 went to

Part Two Club and Ross Smith (accepted on his behalf by David Betts)
The North Notts LGB Development Group

(These were the Michael Raymond Memorial Awards, to organisations which are no longer functioning)

2012

Many of last year's contributors got to work again. Sapphist Writers both put on displays at Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust HQ and at the Council house as well as launching their first anthology.

Nottingham Ball Bois contributed to an event organised by Nottingham City Homes and also set up a display at the Council House. Most importantly, they organised a panel discussion about homophobia in football which had wide TV and radio coverage.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust hosted a Stonewall seminar on Religion and Sexual orientation in the workplace.

Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage did its usual round of displays at libraries, civic centres, a police station and a register office. Its Celebration and awards evening at the Council House saw the Sheriff of Nottingham and the Sheriff's Lady present awards to:

The Nottingham Campiagn for Homosexual Equality (1971-1982)
Mushroom Bookshop (1972-2000)
Sapphist Writers
LiNK Notts
Pride Committees past and present

Once more the East Midlands ran more events than London - according to the National LGBT HIstory Month website's calendar.

2013

The Rainbow writers organised events at Trent University and Newstead Abbey. Trent University ran a series of lecturettes + question and answers.

Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage did its usual round of displays at libraries - including the prison, civic centres, a police station and a register office. Its Celebration and awards evening at the Council House saw the Professor Greg Woods present awards to:

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and Catherine Conchar
WOW, the Worksop LGBT Youth Group
Nottingham Women's Centre
Discern
Nottingham Gay Liberation Front

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust achieved 4th position in Stonewall's employers' ranking. At their HQ at Duncan Macmillan House, they hosted displays and performances by Sapphist Writers, housed the "Living my Life" Trans exhibition, raised the rainbow flag, organised a conference and a film show.
